Trips

Join us on 1 - 2 week international volunteer trips to support our partners, who work on pressing development issues around the clock.

Gain hands-on experience supporting their community-led programs. Understand the culture they work in, the specific needs they have, and how to support them meaningfully over a longer period of time. You might be their next strategist, board member, designer, engineer, or social media manager.

chapters

Join a Boomerang community in your city, with people that have the same international development interests as you.

Hang out with them, share meals together, attend talks by experts in the field, and walk alongside each other on your journeys to fit your skills into meaningful international development work as individuals, as a community or maybe even as a start-up.

volunteering

Our aim is to provide you with opportunities to connect the dots internationally and at home.

Whether or not you travel with us, we offer virtual volunteer projects that will strengthen the organizational capacity of our international partners, and help us stay engaged. We seek specific skill sets for these short (2-5 hrs/wk over 3-6 mo.) projects to be completed at home.

Boomerang TRIPS

The goals for our trips are to deepen members’ understanding of international development by introducing them to organizations working on pressing development issues, and to fuel ideas for our members' continued engagement once back home.

Teams will support asset-based community development partners that use the capacities and assets of the local community to create sustainable development. Ideally, 8-10 members from the same city-based chapter will participate in a 1 - 2 week trip.

Examples of trip activities are: working with community leaders to facilitate vocational training, working with small business owners to strengthen financial literacy, and supporting educators who are re-working rote memory lessons into hands-on critical thinking activities. Team members will also have opportunities to enjoy tourist attractions and some free time.

STRUCTURE & CURRICULUM

We realize the trip experience is a small part of the learning and engagement process. Our trip model fosters learning before the trip and reflection, growth, and impact after it concludes. Specifically, trip teams will gather 4 times the following year to process the experience and discern what future involvement looks like, whether that is another trip, virtually volunteering for the partner(s) they met, leading a Boomerang chapter, etc.

These experiences are intentionally designed to prepare volunteers to engage in ethical and responsible service while abroad and at home.

CITY-BASED CHAPTERS

Finding community, and for that matter meeting fellow travelers, in big cities can be challenging. We believe an effective resource to help you figure out your role is a committed community of friends, who will enrich your journey with their value-add networks, resources, and friendship.

Our city-based chapters hold monthly meetups. Boomerang's first community meetup is in San Francisco, BoomerangSFWe are planning to expand to more cities in the future. If you are interested in leading our next chapter details are below, and please get in touch!

Connecting the dots locally and overseas. Responsible Development.

Most of us want to do meaningful work. We want our lives to have purpose.

So get involved and make a difference.

We believe our partners have real operating needs for skilled professionals to take on-- advocates, strategists, financial supporters, Website designers, media managers, etc.

Our vision is for Boomerang members to stay engaged, build authentic relationships with our international partners, and strengthen their organizational capacity.

Boomerang offers volunteer opportunities, requested by our international partners. They are short projects (2-5 hrs/week over 3-6 months) to be done at home.

With the support of their Boomerang community, our members should carefully discern whether they have the skills and the capacity to meet the need.
